'Pupils personal
development, behaviour and
welfare are good. Pupils have very
positive attitudes to learning
and work hard in lessons.'

In line with the curriculum for music and guidance from Ofsted, we use a scheme called Charanga to support our music teaching. This Scheme moves away from the previous levels and learning objective/outcome concepts to an integrated, practical, exploratory and child-led approach to musical learning. The 6 key skills of music weave through the units to encourage the development of musical skills as the learning progresses through listening and appraising, differing musical activities (including creating and exploring) and performing. The children are encouraged to deepen their understanding of the key skills in each year, including the use of standard musical notation. In addition to this, in Year 3 we teach whole class recorders, which provide the opportunity for children to learn through playing.
