Wenlock Rugby World Cup

Wenlock Rugby World Cup

This week saw the semi-finals and final of the Wenlock Rugby World Cup. The semi-finalists for lower school were Australia v Ireland and South Africa v New Zealand. Both games were a close contest but Ireland and South Africa just edged ahead to earn their spot in the final! After a quick water and toilet break the 2 teams were back on the pitch to see who would be victorious. The match lasted 10 minutes and at one point it was neck and neck but South Africa had a late surge of energy and the final score was Ireland 1 South Africa 3. Congratulations to lower school South Africa and a huge well done to all the year 3 & 4 children who played so brilliantly over the past few weeks.

Wenlock v Downside Netball Match

Wenlock v Downside Netball Match

The girls started the game with a few nerves which showed in our playing. Downside managed to score 3 quick goals in the second quarter but Wenlock didn't let this affect them. The girls found their fire in the third quarter and Megan scored two goals in succession. They fought through the fourth quarter and almost drew level with a near miss from Holley. Final score was 3-2 to Downside. They showed great determination and perseverance, well done to Megan (captain), Jessica, Holly, Freya, Jacey, Jonel and Elora.

Year 5 & 6 Tag Rugby Tournament

On Thursday 7th October, our year 5 & 6 team entered the tag rugby tournament at Luton RFC. We were one of 24 teams that entered and were placed in a group of 6 schools, meaning we would have 5 games in the morning to determine if we would play in the knockout games in the afternoon. Our first game was against Denbigh and we opened with a fantastic 4-2 victory. Secondly, we faced Hillborough and suffered a 6-1 defeat, this was followed by a narrow 4-3 defeat against The Meads, losing via a last second try. Our final two games would define if we made it through to the afternoons knockout round, we lost our penultimate group game 6-2 to Pirton Hill but were victorious in our last game, winning 4-2 against Beechwood.

Year 5 & 6 Boys Football

Year 5 & 6 Boys Football

We had our first boys' football fixtures of the season this week, with our year 5 and 6 boys facing both Bramingham and Wigmore. On Monday we travelled to Bramingham with the sole focus on seeing the boys play for the first time and see where we were at. In a fairly even contest in termsof possession, the difference came in the team's defensive capabilities. We were very keen to get forward and score and left ourselves short of cover at the back, leading to Bramingham earning a more comfortable 6-1 scoreline than the actual game showed.

Wenlock v Wigmore Netball Match 7/10/15

Wenlock v Wigmore Netball Match 7/10/15

After a shaky start our confidence began to grow, ultimately the scoreline did not reflect how well matched the girls were. Although we lost 6-1 the girls did them selves proud, showing our school values of determination, teamwork and courtesy being great home team hosts. Special commendation for Joanna who not only scored our goal, but was voted player of the match by the opposition.

Cross Country Competition

Cross Country Competition

On Wednesday 30th September 2015, we entered the year 5&6 girls and boys cross country competition held at Lewsey Park Sports Centre. We had three competitors one from (5DM), and two from 6ES. There were over 100 runners in each of the races, our competitor from 5DM went first for the year 5 boys and managed to come 1st out of over 100 other boys, a fantastic achievement! Our competitor from 6ES ran in the next race and finished 18th out of over 100 other year 6 girls. Our next competitor from 6ES was the last to run and finished a very respectable mid field finish. On behalf of myself and Mr Forsyth, I would like to congratulate all 3 for representing the school so well and we are already planning for the next competition which is Tag Rugby on Thursday the 9th October.
